Official “Garmin” length of 10K Marikina Race

Courtesy of ExFatRunner at Takbo.ph with his trusty Garmin — the offical length of the 10K Takbo Para Sa Kabataang Marikeno is 11.20km. Maraming salamat muli ExFatRunner.

I quickly ran my 1:00:03 time in the various race calculators on-line and came out with a 53.12 min converted time for 10K. It was my average time. Ok na rin.

Race Time – Marikina 10K Race

1:00:03 — I was not able to do a sub 1 hour after consistently breaking it for the last 3 months.

My first thoughts upon crossing the finish line was the race course was too long. I asked other runners as I rested and most of them confirmed the additional length. I was looking for the guy I saw at the starting assembly who had a Garmin to really confirm but I could not locate him.

I felt a bit bad because of my time and the “long” course. I knew I was doing a good strong pace — easily estimating a sub 55 mins. The two long stretches “felt” a tad long.

After I cooled down a bit, I realized that I should not be too preoccupied with organizers not meeting the exact 10K measurement. But for this leniency to work for me, I thought I really need a Garmin to provide me a good feedback to gauge my performance on. I train for the races and I need to know how well I have done.

For the first time, I have a race excuse: I was up until 11pm with my brother for his birthday. I sipped 3 beers from 7pm to 11pm and surrendered to 3 sticks of cigarettes. I felt I was running well throughout the race but felt some fatigue which I point to the late night carousing and the vices. Oh well.

To top it all, my achilles heel hurts today. I really should not have raced to give my left leg time to heal after the “hilot”. During the race the pain subsided but now — I favor the left leg when I walk. I am thinking of having the injury checked by Wednesday if it does not improve and consequently giving up my race bib for this Sunday’s Botak at the Fort.

I want to kick myself for missing the sub 1 hour by only 3 seconds. I was inside the stadium and I should have done some kind of finishing kick.

Till next time.
